Robin van Persie

Perhaps the most controversial transfer of this decade. Arsene Wenger’s decision to sell Arsene Wenger to Manchester United proved to be the biggest blunder of his managerial career as the Dutchman went on to lift the Premier League title in his maiden season.

The former Feyenoord striker started his career on the left side of the attack but gradually had been shifted to the centre of the attack. It became so evident that the forward had been the main source of goals as he racked up 96 goals for the Gunners during his eight year stint.

In 2012, he arrived at the Old Trafford and almost single handedly secured the 20th title for the Red Devils. The former Dutch international who recently hung up his boots notched 26 goals in the top flight.

Alexis Sanchez

This transfer was supposed to be the catalyst in Manchester United’s rebuilding process but so far the move has backfired. The Red Devils snatched Alexis Sanchez from the grasp of Manchester City as the former Barcelona forward arrived on a swap deal which also saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan switching his allegiance to the other side.

The 30 year old has been a shadow of his previous outings as he barely made to the starting lineup this season. The Chilean international completed just one ninety minutes in the entire campaign which describes his miserable condition at the club.

Currently, the highest paid player at the club, Sanchez has become a pain for the club hierarchy and with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting fresh and young faces next season the former Arsenal star could soon be offloaded.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at Manchester United sent Henrikh Mkhitaryan the other side. The Armenian international had a great start to his United career but failed to maintain the momentum in the later stage of his United career.

His exemplary form for Borussia Dortmund compelled United to shell the big bucks but it proved to be another flop not such as Sanchez. The playmaker scored the winner in the Europa League final and also lifted the League Cup title.

Mkhitaryan’s form hasn’t improved since he switched to the North London side but has fared a lot better than Sanchez. His future also hanging over a thread and it remains to be seen whether the player stays at the Emirates beyond this summer.

The Manchester United legend also had a brief stint with Arsenal. During his four year stint at the Emirates, the player managed just one appearance for the Gunners.

He then subsequently moved to Bristol City and Newcastle City and then made his record move to  United. The third highest goal scorer in the Premier League went on to lift five Premier League titles and one Champions League including the historic treble.

Mikael Silvestre

The French defender was known for his Manchester United ties. He had a nine year long association with the Red Devils winning four Premier League titles and one Champions League.

The defender played in his prime at the Old Trafford and made a move to Arsenal in 2008. Marred by injuries he had very little impact at the Emirates and went on to join Werder Bremen.

David Platt

David Platt arrived at Manchester United as a schoolboy in 1984. Despite signing his first professional contract terms with United he failed to stamp his authority and went on to leave the club on a free transfer.

But Platt proved his credentials in the Premier League with Arsenal when he returned on the English soil in 1995. He helped the Gunners to lift their first Premier League trophy under Arsene Wenger.

Brian Kidd

The Forward has his fair share of highs and lows during his time with United. He scored the most important winner in United’s first ever European Cup win against Benfica.

Later after United got relegated he made a move to Arsenal in 1974.

Frankie Stapleton

Frankie Stapleton’s time at Arsenal wasn’t as successful as he was with United. he reached three FA Cup finals with the Gunners but managed to lift one trophy in 1979 as he netted once in their 3-2 victory over United.

He went on to join the Red Devils later and lifted two FA Cups with them. He also became the first person to score in the FA Cup final with two separate teams.

Jimmy Rimmer

Jimmy Rimmer was a talented shot stopper but had always been an understudy at Manchester United. The keeper had hoped to get a promotion to the senior team but had never gotten a chance during his 11 long seasons at the Old Trafford.

He then joined Arsenal and became the first choice keeper at Highbury. He also went on to be adjudged Arsenal’s player of the year and later also played for England.
