Athletic Bilbao’s director of football Rafal Alkorta has confirmed that the club is interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera and Tottenham Hotspur’s Fernando Llorente.
Speaking to Spanish radio network Cadena SER, Alkorta said, “We are interested in Javi Martinez, Ibai Gomez, Ander Herrera, Fernando Llorente… all of them interest us.”
Bilbao are currently fighting relegation in the La Liga as they are just one place and two points above the relegation zone.
Both Herrera and Llorente have played at Bilbao. Herrera made 128 appearances for the club from 2011 to 2014 while Llorente made 327 appearances for the club from 2005-2013.
Since both players have made regular appearances for Bilbao, their addition to the club’s squad at this stage would be very useful.
Herrera has been a regular for Manchester United but the same can’t be said about Llorente. LLorente has not made a single Premier League start under Mauricio Pochettino. Hence, trying to sign Llorente can be relatively less difficult than trying to sign Herrera.
