Fabio Capello reveals which defenders Jose Mourinho in the summer

Diogo Dalot was the only defensive signing made by the Red Devils

Jose Mourinho prioritized bolstering his defensive options during the summer as he was not happy with the defensive setup last season, despite being the second best defensive team in the Premier League and keeping the most clean sheets.

The manager was keen to sign a top class centre-back during the transfer window. Manchester United were heavily linked many defenders like Jerome Boateng, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Leonardo Bonucci etc.

But the Red Devils didn’t sign him before the transfer deadline, with teenage right-back Diogo Dalot being the only defensive signing. They have struggled defensively so far this season as they have won only 3 games out of 7 in the Premier League, keeping 1 clean sheet in the process.

He oversaw the purchases of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof for a combined total of just over £70 million, neither has earned the trust of the under-fire United manager who has already fielded six different central defensive partnerships this season.

Fabio Capello has revealed that neither Alderweireld or Maguire were Nourinho’s top targets in the transfer window. Former England boss claimed that the Portuguese had his eyes on Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan Skriniar.

‘This summer at a meeting of the coaches, I met Mourinho. He was looking for two defenders: one was [Milan] Skriniar and the other was [Kalidou] Koulibaly.’ the Italian was quoted as saying by Metro.
