Manchester United aims to sign Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez of Argentina is a World Cup champion, and Manchester United has a “serious interest” in acquiring him from Aston Villa

According to a report from Football Insider, the goalkeeper is one of the contenders to succeed David de Gea. The Spanish player’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and while United do have the option to extend it by an additional year, they are unlikely to do so.

Such a condition is currently unfavourable to the club because to De Gea’s £375,000 weekly compensation, which is the biggest salary ever paid to a Spanish football goalkeeper or goalkeeper of any nationality.

Instead, the Red Devils seem prepared to extend a new contract with favourable conditions to their starting quarterback. If De Gea and United can come to an agreement, United is unlikely to approve a big expenditure for a new goalkeeper, and Martinez would not be inexpensive.

The Argentine’s worth has increased since his €17.4 million transfer from Arsenal, and he currently has a deal at Villa Park through 2027. His great performances for his nation during the FIFA World Cup have only raised his already high value. He has been a reliable player in the Premier League for the past two and a half seasons.

Erik ten Hag, however, will probably have his choice of goalkeepers if David De Gea decides to go rather than accept the pay reduction that United ultimately offers him.
