Manchester United have 8 centre-backs on their transfer wishlist

They will have to pay at least a club-record fee for any one of them

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and they have already completed two signings, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot has signed from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee has been agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred.

Despite having the most clean sheets and the second best defensive record in the Premier League last term, Jose Mourinho was not happy as he had to rely on auxiliary full-backs and failed to settle on a consistent central defensive axis due to injuries and inconsistency.

The Portuguese manager is targeting a top class centre-back this summer despite spending big on defenders in the past two years. He is even willing to delay a move for a left-back and stick with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw as their two options this season.

The Premier League Giants are looking for a defender who is below the age 30 and have played in any of the top European leagues.

Eight centre-backs are on United’s radar this summer and the reality is they will have to pay at least a club-record fee for a defender to have any chance of getting any of them according to Manchester Evening News.

One of their top target is Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld who has been tipped heavily to leave the club this summer. But the clubs are £20 million apart in their valuation of him.

Bayern Munich are willing to sell Jerome Boateng at the right price and he is considering all the options. Caglar Soyuncu has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal but they are yet to reach any agreement.

Other target includes Raphael Varane, Kalidou Koulibaly, Jose Gimenez, Alessio Romagnoli and Milan Skriniar.
