Manchester United have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign their midfielder Fred this summer. Gianluca Di Marzio says the club have agreed a £53 million transfer fee with Shakhtar and the transfer is done.

Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour also claimed that the Red Devils are close to securing the deal.

He wrote on Twitter: “Have been looking into the #Fred reports. We understand #MUFC & Shakhtar are in advanced talks over a possible transfer. Deal close & United want him before the World Cup. More on @SkySportsNews.”

Jose Mourinho’s side have prioritized signing a holding midfielder this summer as Micheal Carrick have retired from the club and Marouane Fellaini’s future is still uncertain. They have linked with host of midfielders with the Brazilian one of the them.

Mourinho has been keeping tabs on the 25 year old since January and the player has impressed him with his consistent performances in the Champions League.

Rivals Manchester City were also interested in Fred as Pep Guardiola wanted him as a long term replacement for Fernandinho but the Reds have blown them out of water by making such an offer that they are unwilling to match.

The Brazil International joined the Ukrainian team from Internacional for a reported fee of  €15 million in 2013. He has been an integral part of the team since them and caught attention of many top European clubs.

Fred’s move to United will free up Paul Pogba in a more advanced role in the team and he will play alongside Nemanja Matic in a much deeper role allowing other to bomb forward.

He has already won 7 caps for the Brasil senior team and has been selected in the squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
