Manchester United Heavily Invested In Pursuing Brazilian Winger

Manchester United are reported to be highly interested in signing Douglas Costa this January.

Italian news outlet, Calcio Mercato claims that the Red Devils are strongly considering the Brazilian’s case even after seeing an £80m bid from their ‘noisy neighbours’ get rejected by Juventus.

This is Costa’s second season with the Serie A champions after being signed permanently from Bayern Munich prior to the 2018/19 campaign for £36m. He the last term with 6 goals and 14 assists in 47 games but has struggled to establish himself as a number one choice this season.

Upon the introduction of Cristiano Ronaldo, Massimiliano Allegri has chosen to use Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic in the front three for majority of the Bianconeri’s games.

Costa who is a pure winger has made 19 appearances this season contributing just 2 assists in 632 minutes registered on the pitch. No one can really doubt his talent as a footballer but it is unclear whether he will be willing to continue in the same role for long.

It was Jose Mourinho who first scouted him from the Manchester United ranks but the Portuguese mastermind has since been removed from his position. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer temporarily holding the reigns at Old Trafford, Ed Woodward has been eager to sanction the necessary additions.

However, with both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford coming into form this season, the latter especially in recent times, Costa’s immediate introduction into the Red Devils starting lineup might not be guaranteed either.
