Manchester United Optimistic Of Bringing Around £52m Signing

Manchester United have not completely let up on their £52m signing, Fred even though the midfielder has not been seen on the green pitch for 47 days now.

The Brazilian was last sighted during the Red Devils’ FA Cup 3rd Round victory over Reading, coming off the pitch after 62 minutes. It was Jose Mourinho who had signed Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer but even the Portuguese boss chose to bench him for most games towards the end of his career as a United manager.

Fred’s last start in the Premier League was recorded 3 months back and Ole Gunner Solskjaer had some words for the press regarding the 25-year-old. He said, “He [Fred]’s a good lad, same with Andreas. He’s working really hard, you’ve got Scott [McTominay]. And when they get the chance, because they will, we want to see improvement.”

“We know there’s a very, very good player there with Fred so hopefully he’ll adjust to the English game because there’s no doubt there’s talent, absolutely no doubt.

“It’s always difficult to come here. One: It’s Man United, you’re expected to perform straight away. Two: It’s an English league that he’s not used to. But he’s a Brazilian international, Andreas is a Brazilian international, the talent is there and when they get the chance the next time… it’s easier to come into a team that’s doing well.”

Solskjaer further added after United’s 0-3 victory over Fulham on 9th February, when Fred was excluded from the matchday squad, “Fred is exactly like everyone else. You know he’s going to be able to contribute and he will contribute, don’t worry about that.”
