Manchester United Ready To Make £25m For Ole Solskjaer's First Signing

Manchester United are close to activating Toby Alderweireld’s £25m release clause and making him the club’s first signing under Ole Gunnar Solsjaer.

Reports claim that Jose Mourinho originally wanted him at Old Trafford but was denied the rights by Ed Woodward. Succeeding into a defensively fragile side, the Norwegian boss is also keen on making a few quality additions.

Alderweireld is arguably one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League when healthy. He manned the Spurs backline through the 1-0 Champions League Quarterfinal victory over Manchester City on Wednesday night.

However, with his contract running down to an end, the Red Devils or any other interested club for that matter, have the option to sign for practically nothing. A top-pedigree defender like the Belgian is expected to cost a hefty sum in the present market.

The biggest concerns with Alderweireld might be his age and his history with injuries. The 30-year-old has missed quite a few games over past seasons due to recurring physical problems.

While his talents cannot be doubted, his inability to stay on the pitch for a consistent basis is worrying.

Reports continue to link United with Borussia Dortmund starlet, Jadon Sancho while some claim that Solskjaer will be offered a £200m transfer kitty after this season.
