It seems Manchester United are on the verge of completing a signing of a centre-back.
The Red Devils have been in the market since the summer to bring in a defender but found no one who fitted the bill correctly. Jose Mourinho kept on complaining throughout the flag end of his tenure at the club about his side’s lack of defensive options.
United have Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling in centre-back but none of the centre backs have been able to establish their authority by taking charge of the backline. This prompted Mourinho to sign Maguire or Alderweireld in the summer but a move never emerged.
It now seems that the United hierarchy are desperate to solve the situation as well. They went in for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly initially but the move is tougher than expected due to Napoli’s high demand and the number of clubs interested in him.
It now seems United will settle for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic. The defender will be bought from the Italian side with United ready to offer Pereira as well in a player plus cash deal to the Fiorentina, who themselves are looking for a playmaker.
The deal could be wrapped up pretty soon given the dynamics of the situation.
