Manchester United Want To Replace David De Gea With £22m Dutchman

Manchester United have picked Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen as David De Gea’s replacement should the Spaniard quit Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils are currently at a standoff with the goalkeeper over his new contract. De Gea has demanded for his salary to be at the same level as Alexis Sanchez, who notoriously cut himself a nice round check worth around £500,000 per week when transferring from Arsenal last year.

Ed Woodward has already told the 28-year-old that United cannot offer him what he wants. The club chairman is quietly even regretting the decision to back Jose Mourinho and give Sanchez such a ludicrous amount.

De Gea has been the Red Devils’ go-to player for the past few seasons, even being named the club’s player of the season a record number of times. However, his form has dropped significantly in the latter half of the 2018/19 campaign.

Only AFC Bournemouth’s Asmir Begovic and Arsenal’s Bernd Leno committed more errors (5) than David De Gea (4) in the Premier League this term.

The Spaniard’s contract was about to get over this June but United has chosen to activate a one-year extension clause. If they do not arrive at an agreement soon, De Gea could potentially leave Old Trafford for absolutely nothing after the next season.

To avoid such a disaster, the shot-stopper will have to sold this very summer and Cillessen has been selected to replace him.
