Manchester United will reject any bids for Victor Lindelof

Jose Mourinho wants him to play a bigger role in the upcoming season

Victor Lindelof joined Manchester United from Benfica for a reported fee of £31 million, signing a 4 year deal last summer. He went past Rio Ferdinand as the club’s costliest defender of all time.

Club’s manager Jose Mourinho insisted that the defender was a signing for the long-term rather than immediate as the club already had 5 centre-backs that time.

The Sweden International had a shaky start to his England career and was called up in the Starting XI only against less bigger teams. He was only given 13 league starts in his debut campaign and managed to make 28 appearances in all competitions.

But the 23 year old has steadily established himself for the Sweden side and had been very impressive during this year’s World Cup. He played in their last four games at Russia, including last week’s quarter-final against England which they lost 2-0.

Ferdinand believes a lack of belief by Mourinho and his staff may have affected him last season at Old Trafford.

“He’s 23, he’s young, he came to United with a big, big price tag from Benfica.

“He didn’t seem to have the confidence in a Manchester United shirt that I’ve seen in a Sweden shirt.

“The manager, the staff, the players in that team look like they believe in this boy.

“It doesn’t seem he has that at the moment at Manchester United and that’s what’s affected him.”

He is wanted by host of clubs including his former club this summer. They are all interested in signing him on a loan deal rather than a permanent one.

But United will stand firm and knock back all bids to because Jose Mourinho sees him playing a bigger role this season according to The Sun. He insists the centre-back will eventually become a fixture at the heart of his backline.
