Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - First Team Manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted Manchester United’s brilliant comeback against Southampton reminded him of the good old days.

United had to win to get into the top four as Arsenal played a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur earlier on Saturday. Southampton drew the first blood as Yan Valery’s screamer flew past David De Gea to shock the packed Old Trafford crowd.

United restored parity as Andres Pereira latched a superb 25 yard curler to help his side back into the game. Romelu Lukaku struck quickly as United took a lead for the first time in the match but James Word-Prowse’s excellent free-kick left United searching for a winner.

And it did come as Lukaku scored the second of the evening with a delightful finish from outside of the box.

Solskjaer said, “The manner of it is like the old days. I’ve been part of that so many times myself.

“So pleased for the boys that they managed to claw three points out of this game.

“We spoke about at half-time, just get some more urgency get the ball in the box, play more forward and the Stretford End will suck the ball in for you.

“Don’t want to take much away from Andreas and Romelu’s great finishes but we felt that support is just part of this club, this history, done it so many times before.”
