Premier League legend has backed Jose Mourinho

He hopes the Portuguese survives the current pressure to remain at Old Trafford

Jose Mourinho was appointed as Manchester United manager back in 2016, taking over the charge from Louis Van Gaal. He guided the team to win League and Europa League, which ensured their return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils finished second in the Premier League behind Manchester City last season, their highest ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. They also reached the FA Cup final but were beaten by Chelsea.

The manager wanted quality additions during this summer transfer window after signing the likes of Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba etc in the the past transfer windows. Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant joined the squad this summer.

But the club failed to sign any more players the Portuguese wanted, especially a high profile centre-back and openly expressed his disappointment for not getting the players.

The Premier League giants are struggling right now after failing to win their last 4 fixtures in all competitions. They have made their worst start to a Premier League season ever, and the slowest in England’s top flight since 1989-90, with a 3-1 defeat to West Ham on Saturday.

Pressure on the former Chelsea manager further increased as the Premier League giants drew 0-0 against Valencia in the Champions League on Wednesday.

However, Arsenal legend David Seaman has backed Mourinho and hopes he survive the current pressure to stay at the club.

“It’s not good when a player of that stature (Scholes) is having a right go at Mourinho,” he told Talksport as quoted by Belfast Telegraph. “It’s a little bit surprising but whenever you speak to anybody about it, they don’t know what to say and everybody seems to be against Mourinho.

“When you get Rio and Scholesy have a right go on TV, it’s not good. Something’s got to give and I hope it’s not Mourinho. I know a lot of fans won’t like that but if Mourinho gets the boot, then player power has won and I’m not a big fan of that.

“The way they’re playing is demoralising. When you look at the team-sheet, it’s class and it should be doing better. The players should be doing better.”
