Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called David de Gea the best goalkeeper in the world and said that he is challenging the likes of Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar to become the club’s greatest keeper of all-time.

De Gea has established himself as an excellent keeper all these years with Manchester United. There’s absolutely no doubt that he is just below Schmeichel and Van der Sar.

De Gea pulled off probably his finest performance for Manchester United by making 11 saves against Tottenham this evening.

Manchester United won their first away game against Tottenham since 2012 thanks to Marcus Rashford’s goal. However, De Gea’s performance stole the limelight.

The win is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sixth successive win in as many matches since he became Manchester United’s manager. He has now equaled Sir Matt Busby’s record of winning his first five games as Manchester United’s manager.

Following the match, when asked if De Gea’s performance was the finest of his stay at United, Solskjaer said, “He had one against Arsenal a few years ago. I’ve said it many times, though, we’ve got the best goalkeeper in the world.

Obviously when you make 11 saves it is a top performance, but even so, two of them were top saves. The rest you would expect David to make, they were more about concentration and being in the right position. We’ve had some great goalkeepers at this club and I think he’s challenging both Edwin and Peter for the number one spot historically.”

Manchester United’s next match is against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
