The Latest On Philippe Coutinho To Manchester United

Philippe Coutinho has not enjoyed the most rewarding period at Barcelona since his £142m switch from Liverpool last year.

He was finally awarded a start against Eibar on Sunday after being left out of the starting XI in the last 4 La Liga fixture. He has also managed just 6 goals and 5 assists in 22 appearances this season – which is not the level expected out of the world’s 3rd most expensive football player.

Reports claim that Manchester United have been monitoring the Brazilian for some time and have even contacted his representatives regarding a move. Coutinho is not completely opposed to the idea.

The 26-year-old could pull the trigger if he continues to be left out of the starting XI by Ernesto Valverde. Coutinho, transition into a star-stacked Barcelona has understandably been difficult.

He used to be Liverpool’s main creative outlet from the attacking midfield role and arguably their best player. Here at the Camp Nou, there are the likes of Lionel Messi, Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez, Arthur Melo next to him while the Brazilian has mostly had to operate from the wide areas.

Spanish news outlets also claim that a move back to England might not be wholly supported by Coutinho’s family, who just welcomed in a baby daughter recently.

The fact that he is even considering a switch should be motivation enough for Red Devils to chase the star.
