Reliable sources claim that although Ajax has shown interest in Manuel Ugarte, Manchester United is unwilling to allow the Uruguayan midfielder to depart just yet. This summer, the 24-year-old received a €50 million contract with incentives of €10 million from Paris Saint-Germain. Ugarte has had inconsistent playing time this season.
He has already been connected to teams like Galatasaray and OGC Nice, according to reports. Although a departure this month seems doubtful, Ajax is looking for a loan agreement till the end of the season. Rio Ferdinand, a legend of United, has been perplexed by Ugarte after being first informed that he would be a potent defensive midfielder upon joining.
A large portion of United’s fan base has experienced the same bewilderment and unhappiness. Under Erik ten Hag or Amorim, Ugarte seems to have never really found his ideal role. Ugarte may have a future in Manchester if United is moving back to a midfield three, which is likely under Carrick. However, Carrick still has 16 games left, and Ugarte will be aware that he needs to perform well in those games before the season is over.
