If Manchester United loses to Sunderland on Saturday, Ruben Amorim might be fired. Amorim is under a lot of pressure going into a crucial match against the recently promoted Wearside team at Old Trafford, according to Telegraph Sport.
Co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers may find their patience severely tested if United suffers another loss in their final game before the international break. Following that, they will go to Anfield to play Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Concerns regarding Amorim’s preparedness for the position have grown as a result of United’s poor performance in last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Brentford, their third loss in six league games this season.
Amorim acknowledged on Friday that he might lose his job if things don’t change right away and that it would be “impossible” for United to support him if things go out of hand.
Amorim could be sacked if Man United lose to Sunderland
“It doesn’t matter,” Amorim said when asked if he thought he was getting close to the moment when the board’s patience would give out. The way football is, I just need one more game.
We have to play one more game. If we win, we will have some chance for the following one. “That is the same thing every time, so I don’t need much time.” In my opinion, that is irrelevant; what counts is the next game, which is [today]. The only things left to do are perform and win.
“It’s losing games, not losing my job, that hurts me.” When you have to pay the bills, you worry about losing your job, but I don’t feel that way. All I want to do is keep going. The pain I experience, however, is when we lose games. The fear of losing one’s employment is not the cause.
United would have to pay almost £12 million in compensation if Amorim were fired during his first 12 months, but given the circumstances, it doesn’t seem like that would play a significant role in any decision-making process.
