He has been linked with a summer exit
Manchester United signed Goalkeeper David De Gea from Atletico Madrid in 2011 to replace Edwin Van Der Sar, who retired form active football that year only. Sir Alex Ferguson even missed a League Cup match to travel to Spain to watch him in action before deciding to sign him up.
The 27 year old had a rocky start in England but since then he has established himself as a key player for the club. He has been the best player for the Red Devils for the last few seasons, winning a record-breaking four Player of the Year awards with the club.
The Spaniard was one of the standout players for the English side last season, keeping 18 clean sheets in the league and was presented his first ever Premier League Golden Glove award.
He has been a model of consistency in recent years, with his shot-stopping ability having helped the club to many precious points during a testing period on and off the field. He is arguably considered the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
The Spain International has been repeatedly linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past few transfer windows but a deal never went through. But he has been again linked with a move to them in the summer as they are looking to find a long term replacement for Keylor Navas.
Ander Herrera believes David de Gea will stay at the club as the midfielder feels the loyalty of the supporters will keep him at Old Trafford for the long term.
“I remember that difficult summer when everyone was talking about Real Madrid and he played the first game at Old Trafford and everyone was singing his name and he told me ‘this is amazing, they are the best’,” said Herrera as quoted by Goal.
“He can be very calm but he’s the best. He will show it again. He’s the best keeper I’ve ever seen in my life and he is with us so we have more chances to win titles.”
“He is so, so strong,” Herrera added. “I remember when I was in Spain and he signed for the club. The first couple of months were hard for him and he became the best goalkeeper in the world in the next four years so I am very relaxed about him.
