Manchester United have received an official proposal from AS Roma for striker Joshua Zirkzee.

Roma Make Formal Loan Bid for Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Italian club has submitted a loan offer with a potential obligation to buy the Netherlands international.

The bid arrives with Zirkzee already agreeing to personal terms with Roma.

The final decision now rests with Manchester United’s management and manager Ruben Amorim. A move could progress swiftly should the club grant approval.

Zirkzee has occupied a squad role at Old Trafford this season, starting only three Premier League matches.

His situation reflects United’s current attacking shortage, with forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo away on international duty.

This shortage contributed to the club’s own failed attempt to sign Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, a factor which may now influence their thinking on Zirkzee’s departure.

Roma’s offer includes an obligation to buy becoming permanent if they qualify for the Champions League. They currently sit close to the top-four places in Serie A.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini sees Zirkzee as a potential focal point in his 3-4-2-1 system, offering the 23-year-old a clearer path to regular football.

For United, the timing presents a dilemma. While the financial terms of a loan with a conditional purchase may appeal, letting Zirkzee leave immediately would further deplete their attacking options.

The club may therefore delay any final decision until late in the January transfer window, assessing their squad needs after the return of their absent players.

Zirkzee, a £36.5 million signing, has struggled to secure a place ahead of Benjamin Sesko.

His recent substitute appearance against Newcastle United highlighted his limited impact, winning just one duel in a 30-minute outing.

A return to Serie A, where he previously played for Bologna, now appears a strong possibility should United give the deal the green light.
