The Portuguese playmaker delivered yet another influential performance on Monday night, helping United beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford.
That victory keeps United’s Champions League hopes alive with just four games remaining.
Fernandes registered his 19th assist of the Premier League season against Brentford.
He now needs just one more to equal the all-time single-season record of 20, jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Since joining United from Sporting CP in 2020, Fernandes has become the club’s undisputed talisman.
His Premier League numbers now place him alongside Ronaldo, United’s all-time great.
Fernandes has recorded 140 goal involvements in the Premier League for United – 70 goals and 70 assists.
Ronaldo also reached 140 contributions during his two spells at the club, though the former United star scored 103 goals and provided 37 assists.
By adding one more assist to break the record, Fernandes will officially surpass Ronaldo’s tally.
This season alone, Fernandes has contributed 27 goal involvements. According to OptaJoe, those involvements have directly earned United 30 points in the league.
That figure marks only the ninth time in Premier League history a player has reached such a total in a single campaign.
Fernandes has more than personal records to chase. He also aims for his first-ever Premier League Player of the Year award and a top-four finish.
United next face Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford. Fernandes will need just one assist to break Henry and De Bruyne’s record – and surpass Ronaldo in the process.
