Midfielder Conor Gallagher could be on his way back to the Premier League with Manchester United showing serious interest in signing the 25-year-old from Atlético Madrid during the upcoming January transfer window.

Conor Gallagher open to winter move to Manchester United

The reports claim Gallagher would be open to a departure to secure more regular playing time — a key factor for his hopes of being selected in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Gallagher joined Atlético from Chelsea F.C. in August 2024 for roughly £34 million. Initially, things looked promising: he scored early for the club and appeared to fit Atlético’s energy-intensive style.

However this season, game time has been scarce he has started just a few matches in La Liga and has often been used off the bench.

Recent commentary from Gallagher confirms his frustration. The England international admitted he is “not satisfied” with his limited minutes at Atlético and has acknowledged that he may need to move to rebuild his international ambitions.

On United’s side, they are actively exploring midfield reinforcements. With more expensive targets like Elliot Anderson or Carlos Baleba priced at £70 million or more, Gallagher represents a more affordable option.

As per Football Transfers Reports suggest Atlético might be willing to accept around £26 million for a permanent deal.

If the deal materialises, Gallagher could offer United important midfield depth and energy.

His pressing, stamina and past Premier League experience make him a practical signing — provided Old Trafford can offer him the regular starts he is seeking.
