David de Gea just signed a bumper new contract at Old Trafford. However, former manager Jose Mourinho thinks Spanish goalkeeper got lucky.

There was quite a buzz around David De Gea’s contract extension. Will he sign it? Will he not? Will he leave as a free agent? Will he be sold?

David de Gea has been an integral part of Manchester United since his arrival in 2011. And the 28-year-old finally signed a new contract last week worth £250,000-a-week after tax. This commitment will last until 2023. Fans are really happy about it.

But former Manchester United manager thinks that Manchester United were bit hasty to give him this big a contract.

‘I think the moment he signed his huge contract is a moment that I don’t think Manchester United need to pay as much as they have.” Jose told Sky Sports.

Last few years, De Gea has been strongly linked with Real Madrid, PSG, and Juventus.

“One or two years ago the world was after him. At the moment, the majority of the big doors are closed. Real Madrid are closed. Barcelona are closed. PSG are closed.”

Jose believes considering everything, David should consider himself lucky to get this big a contract.

“I don’t think United were under pressure because David was going to disappear. So he gets a phenomenal contract in a moment when he’s a bit lucky to get it.”
