De Rossi: I didn't join United cause of Scholes and Roy Keane

Legendary Italian midfielder Daniele De Rossi has played for only two clubs in his career, Roma and Boca Juniors. De Rossi had the opportunity to play for Manchester United, but he refused.

De Rossi has made more than 600 appearances for Roma during his career, and has said goodbye to the Boca jersey. He has been the target of numerous clubs in the past, and now he has specifically explained why he turned down Manchester United. In an interview with Sky Italia, he revealed why he didn’t join United, among other things.

‘I’ve always loved Man United since I was a kid. It was the right choice that I didn’t go to Manchester because there was Keane and Scholes, incredible players which played in my position. It was really my desire to go to Boca Juniors.

De Rossi also revealed his plans to manage Roma.

‘I went on a football path that is not unique, but rare. Playing 20 years on a team does not happen every day. I can’t dream of the same thing if I become a coach, there are no coaches that last so long,’ he said. ‘I would like to coach Roma, but first I have to become a coach and to do it there is a growth path that all young coaches need.
