Donny Van De Beek closing in on Manchester United transfer

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a transfer for Donny Van De Beek.

The Ajax midfielder has been one of the better players in the Netherlands team and the Dutch Eridivise in the last few seasons. His impressive performances not only helped Ajax win the league in 2018-19 but also reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

He was tipped with a move to FC Barcelona last season, the links of which grew stronger over this summer as well. However, it has now ended up with the player making a change in decision and choosing Manchester United instead, according to reports.

The Red Devils are reportedly close to sealing deal worth £40m with add-ons for the midfielder. VDB will join Pogba and Bruno but in all probability not be a starting midfielder.

The problem is not his quality of course, which he brings in plenty but the similar nature of his game to that of Pogba or Bruno as a ball carrier rather than a holding midfielder.

So having a midfield three of Bruno, Pogba and VDB will leave United exposed at the back. The move however, will add definite strength in depth to the United squad.
