Erik ten Hag Confirms Trio Out for Barnsley Clash

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that three players will be sidelined for Tuesday’s match against Barnsley.

Following a challenging victory over Southampton, where United secured a 3-0 win, Ten Hag faces fresh injury concerns.

Defensive woes continue to plague United as Lisandro Martinez, who was substituted during the Southampton game, is ruled out with what appears to be a groin strain.

With walking off with a smile, the Argentine defender’s absence will be felt on Tuesday. His partner in defense, Matthijs de Ligt, also had to leave the pitch, though he described his issue as a cramp, adding a sliver of hope that his injury is not severe.

However, the situation worsens with right-back Noussair Mazraoui, who left the field to receive treatment and is now doubtful for the Barnsley fixture. The severity of Mazraoui’s injury raises concerns, leaving Ten Hag with a significantly depleted defense.

Victor Lindelof, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia are already sidelined, complicating Ten Hag’s defensive options.

Shaw’s unavailability for the Barnsley game was confirmed by the manager, who also noted that Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund are unlikely to feature but could return in the following weeks.

With the defensive lineup stretched thin, Diogo Dalot and Jonny Evans are currently the only fit defenders.

Young Harry Amass, who shone during pre-season, might be called upon to fill in at left-back, and Casemiro could be deployed as an emergency center-back, as seen towards the end of the Southampton match.

Ten Hag remains hopeful for the return of his injured players in the near future, but for now, he must navigate Tuesday’s match with a makeshift defense.
