Erik ten Hag considers New Role for Jadon Sancho at Manchester United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a surprising admission regarding Jadon Sancho’s potential role for the upcoming season.
With the squad facing injury setbacks, including a hamstring issue sidelining Rasmus Hojlund until September, Sancho might be asked to fill an unexpected position.
Sancho, who has not found the back of the net for United since May 2023, has been working hard to reintegrate into the team after a turbulent period.
Having returned to first-team training last month, Sancho has featured as a false nine in two out of three pre-season matches during the U.S. tour.
Ten Hag is contemplating utilizing Sancho in a central attacking role against Manchester City in the Community Shield. This comes as the manager grapples with Marcus Rashford’s struggles as a central forward and Joshua Zirkzee’s delayed integration into the squad.
Ten Hag confirmed Sancho’s potential role, stating, “If we don’t have Rasmus available, Jadon is an option as a striker. He can play in wide areas or as a false nine.”
The manager also acknowledged the need for Zirkzee to adapt to English football, hinting that Sancho’s versatility could be crucial in the interim.
This strategic shift highlights Ten Hag’s adaptability and the evolving dynamics within United’s squad.
With the season’s challenges ahead, Sancho’s role could be pivotal in bridging gaps left by key absentees.
