Erik ten Hag has described Manchester United’s trophy aspirations and stated that despite a subpar start to the season, his team still has a “long way to go.” After a sluggish start this season, the Dutchman has been under pressure to lead the Red Devils to FA Cup and Carabao Cup victory since his arrival in 2022.

If given ample time at Old Trafford, he’s far from done there and is concentrating on preparing the team for the second half of the 2024–25 campaign. Ten Hag commented, “We have not had a good start,” while speaking at the Football Writers’ Association Northern Managers’ Awards. We’re not happy, and we know it.

Manchester United are going in the right direction

After United’s goalless draw with Aston Villa, Ten Hag was criticized for saying the team was headed in the right direction. However, on Sunday, he reiterated that claim. In a speech to journalists, the Dutchman expressed his conviction that United is making progress and accepted an invitation to the Football Writers’ Association dinner.

Ten Hag stated, “We know that we have not gotten off to a good start.” “Our happiness is lacking. Though it’s only one game, we are pleased with the victory and the comeback. However, winning trophies requires strong play and a diligent season-long effort. But in autumn or winter, you will not [win] awards. Not even in the springtime; awards are given out in April and May. We’re still on the journey; so much work remains.
