Due to Antony’s poor start to his third season at Old Trafford, Manchester United is expected to consider loan bids for him during the January transfer window, according to Football Insider. According to reports, Erik ten Hag no longer has the 24-year-old in his sights for Manchester, and the club’s management is now eager to take his £200,000 weekly salary off their books.

The announcement follows rumours that Antony will return to Ajax, where he had a good run with the Eredivisie powerhouses prior to joining United in 2022. The Amsterdam-based team is unsure whether to pursue the Brazilian, who had a rough time at Old Trafford and has dropped significantly in the rankings this season, according to the Dutch publication De Telegraaf.

24-year-old’s January departure could be key to Erik ten Hag saving face at Man United

At Manchester United, Erik ten Hag frequently comes across as naive in his choices, but allowing Antony to depart is perhaps the first step in the Dutchman’s attempt to maintain his reputation. Given that the £86 million deal was nothing more than a spectacular failure at Old Trafford, it would appear that he is finally starting to acknowledge his blunders in the transfer market.

He has only scored four goals in 42 games across all competitions in the last two seasons (transfermarkt), which has caused his market worth to drop to just €20 million. That has apparently caused the manager to change his mind. Up until now, he has appeared unwavering in his refusal to acknowledge that any of his acquisitions weren’t the greatest for the Red Devils.
