Former Manchester United captain and BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has slammed Harry Maguire for being defensively frail in set piece situations.

The new Manchester United captain was responsible for two goals from two set pieces in United’s last two games against Liverpool and Burnley.

The former Manchester United centre back who was a part of the United defence which holds the record in the PL for going the longest without conceding a goal has now slammed Maguire for making basic mistakes.

He also deemed Maguire as unworthy of leadership of a great side like Manchester United.

He told BT Sport: “Go up and win it, show some desire, Maguire as the captain has to go up with desire.

“What are you doing there Maguire!? He starts in a great position with his arm out, he can feel Chris Wood.

“But then he doesn’t anticipate it. you can’t be that far off and leave your man there. He (Wood) then gets in front of him, not good enough, and punished.”

United are not in a good form at the moment with a manager like Ole nothing more than a mouthpiece for a dysfunctional board.
