Former Manchester United star defends Jose Mourinho

The Portuguese manager has been criticized after defeat against Brighton

Jose Mourinho was appointed as Manchester United manager back in 2016, taking over the charge from Louis Van Gaal. He guided the team to win League and Europa League, which ensured their return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils finished second in the Premier League behind Manchester City last season, their highest ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. They also reached the FA Cup final but were beaten by Chelsea.

He wanted some quality additions during this summer transfer window after signing the likes of Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba in the the past transfer windows. Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant joined the squad this summer.

But the the former Blues manager wanted more signings, especially a right sided winger and an experienced centre-back. But failed to sign anyone before the transfer deadline.

He has openly expressed his disappointment of not getting the players he wanted though claiming that he is still happy with the squad at his disposal.

The Premier League giants started this campaign with a win against Leicester City but were handed a shocking defeat against Brighton last weekend. It has been a turbulence week for the manager, who once again has been criticized.

Former United star Phil Neville has come out in support of Mourinho and claimed all these are disgraceful.

“I think it is disgusting,” he told BBC Radio five live as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“I read something the other day that his methods are outdated and I think that’s the most disrespect thing ever.

“How do these people know his methods are outdated when he comes back in a Manchester derby and wins 3-2?

“Were his methods outdated in that? I think his record speaks for itself.

They are going through a bad period. That performance last week at Brighton was unacceptable but I don’t see a better man for the job.

“In terms of his record since he’s gone to United – an FA Cup win, Carabao Cup win, Europa League win, two Champions League qualifications.

“I don’t think all is smooth there and I think it’s a club issue but I think the criticism that’s getting, I just think it is disgraceful. I really do.”
