Manchester United have locked in a verbal agreement with Harry Maguire, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirming the defender will sign a new contract at Old Trafford.

Maguire to Sign New United Contract as Romano Confirms ‘Here We Go’

Romano broke the news on Instagram with his trademark “Here we go!” – revealing Maguire’s fresh deal runs until June 2027.

The agreement also includes a club-friendly option to extend for an additional season, taking him through to 2028 if United choose to activate it.

The English centre-back currently earns around £190,000 per week. However, sources indicate Maguire has approved a significant pay cut, dropping to approximately £100,000 weekly.

This reduction gives the club much more favourable terms moving forward.

Maguire’s existing contract expires this summer, and four Premier League clubs recently attempted to lure him away. But the 32-year-old has chosen to commit his future to Manchester United instead.

The verbal agreement now awaits a formal signing before the season ends. Crucially, the option for a second year lies entirely with the club – putting the ball firmly in United’s court.

United face a packed transfer window. Rasmus Hojlund’s loan move to Napoli includes a €44 million purchase option that the Italian club will exercise.

Marcus Rashford is expected to complete a permanent switch to Barcelona, while Casemiro will not receive a new contract.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly entered the race for a top Serie A centre-back, competing with Liverpool and Tottenham.

Club legend David Beckham has also backed Michael Carrick as the ideal candidate for the permanent manager’s role.

For now, Maguire’s renewed commitment gives United defensive stability and financial flexibility – a shrewd piece of business as the club prepares for major changes ahead.
