Harry Maguire asked to leave Old Trafford

Harry Maguire has struggled for game time under Erik Ten Hag this season.

The 29-year-old has been playing a bit-part role under Ten Hag this season and has just started four games in the Premier League.

The Man United captain has fallen down the pecking order behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and even Luke Shaw in the centre-back position.

The England defender has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer and Shaw’s positive spell at centre-back should indicate the end of his United career.

Without a doubt, Maguire warrants more game time and club legend Rio Ferdinand believes the club captain needs to decide his future sooner or later.

‘If you are a player of Harry Maguire’s quality and you aren’t starting for your club every week, you have a decision to make,’ Ferdinand told William Hill.

‘You want to be playing and if you’re not, then you have to look at the possibility of moving on. However, if you are happy being a squad player, then you can stick around and play that role.

‘If Harry wants to do that then great, but I’m not sure when he signed from Leicester he made the move to sit on the bench and be more of a squad player. You’d have to think he wants to be starting every week.’
