Harry Maguire told to fight for his England and Man United future

Harry Maguire is an easy scapegoat and he needs to back himself up with performances.

The 29-year old defender was booed by the England fans before Tuesday night’s friendly with Ivory Coast even though he has been performing well for England.

The defender also failed to impress for Manchester United since his summer move in 2019.

England won 3-0 against Ivory Coast and Jamie Carragher believes Maguire’s treatment is quite baffling.

“Harry Maguire faces the greatest challenge of his career,” Carragher wrote for The Telegraph.

“For club and country, the perception of Maguire has turned extremely negative incredibly quickly. The sympathy of teammates and his managers does not alter the fact that Maguire has to fight for his future. Only one person can change the situation.

“Maguire has to show he has the talent and strength of character to stay at Manchester United beyond this season, and remain the lynchpin of England’s defence at the World Cup.

“The treatment he received from some England fans at Wembley on Tuesday night was baffling. Maguire has been outstanding in an England shirt.”
