How Close Jadon Sancho Actually Came To Signing For Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc revealed just how close Jadon Sancho came to signing with Manchester United.

The Englishman enjoyed a breakout season last year after quitting Manchester City and being handed a chance in the Dortmund first team by Lucien Favre.

Sancho were in elite company mid-way through the season, registering as many assists as Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard in Europe’s top five leagues. He finished the campaign with 13 goals and 19 assists in 43 appearances.

United expressed a strong interest in the 19-year-old in January and were reportedly even willing to pay his €100m asking price. Zorc revealed that United approached them but BVB were not interested in selling Sancho, for any amount of cash.

When asked about how close United came in stealing away the winger, Zorc replied, “Not close at all. We didn’t talk to them. They were asking us for a meeting. Sancho is not for sale.”

Speculation still follows Sancho around as he continues to impress for the Bundesliga outfit. He has already collected 6 assists and 3 goals in 7 appearances this season and is improving by each game.

With Marco Reus fitting in more centrally, Sancho has become an integral part of the Dortmund’s attack, being handed the freedom to create from wide spaces.

He featured against Barcelona on Tuesday night and constantly troubled Ernesto Valverde’s backline. He ended up winning his side a penalty which, unfortunately, Reus missed to end the match goalless.
