Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is of the opinion that injuries are the reason why Alexis Sanchez has under-performed this season so far.

Sanchez joined Manchester United this January from Arsenal in a swap deal. Ever since coming to Old Trafford, his performances have taken a hit.

This season, Sanchez’s performances have been underwhelming so far and many have called for his removal from the starting XI. Barring a late winner against Newcastle a few weeks back, Sanchez has done pretty much nothing this season.

Sanchez missed Manchester United’s Champions League encounter against Juventus due to an injury and will also miss Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Everton.

Mourinho feels that the Chilean needs to be physically fit and have a run of good matches to rediscover his form. He said, “In this moment, he is struggling because he is injured and because he came to the Chelsea match to try to help the team but his physical condition was not good. Then he had to stop and he was not available for Juventus. I believe he is not available tomorrow again.

So now the point is to be physically in the best condition. He arrived in January last season – I don’t think that is ever an easy situation for a player. But this season he had a good start. He had a good pre-season and he started well against Leicester. Then he was injured. Then he came back and then he was injured again. So he is struggling with his condition and I think he is the kind of player that needs to be really sharp to play his best game.”

Manchester United will hope to go up the table tomorrow when they take on Everton.
