Jose Mourinho tells Manchester United to complete the signing of Leonardo Bonucci

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.

The Red Devils are expected to be very busy in the summer transfer window and have started the transfer window in an excellent way. They have already completed two signings, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot has signed from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee has been agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred.

Despite having the most clean sheets and the second best defensive record in the Premier League last term, Jose Mourinho was not happy as he had to rely on auxiliary full-backs and failed to settle on a consistent central defensive axis due to injuries and inconsistency.

The Portuguese manager is targeting a top class centre-back this summer despite spending big on defenders in the past two years. The club have been linked with host of defenders including AC Milan star Leonardo Bonucci.

The 31 year old, who is rated as one of the finest defenders in the world, joined the Italian side from rivals Juventus for a €42 million fee last summer. But has endured a trouble campaign and has been the victim of instability at the club, managing to make 47 appearances in all competitions.

After spending around £200 million last summer to strengthen the squad, the Serie A giants finished sixth in the league and will miss the Champions League next season. The club may be forced to sell their assets this summer as UEFA prepare to impose sanctions on the Italian giants for breaching Financial Fair Play Rules.

Former Chelsea boss was also keeping tabs on Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng but believes the Italy International could be signed for much cheaper.

Corriere dello Sport as quoted by Metro say Mourinho wants Manchester United to secure his signature imminently as he knows an auction could take place which will raise his fee.

Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Chelsea are also monitoring the centre-back’s situation at Milan.
