Juventus are on the hunt for Premier League players this January, their latest being Manchester United fullback, Matteo Darmian.

The Bianconeri are close to agreeing on a loan agreement for the Italian which could last the remainder of the season. Darmian’s contract is set to end next June but United are willing to utilise the year-long extension in his deal to extract some value out of him. If Juventus are to keep the 29-year-old beyond the 2018/19 campaign they will have to pay the Red Devils £7.1m next summer.

Darmian fell out of the rotation long time back at Manchester. He is of no use to the club’s interim head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who not only has maintained a 100% record since taking over but has also helped a lot of players hit a running form.

Louis Van Gaal brought Darmian to United in the summer of 2015 from Torino FC. At the time, the 29-year-old was a prominent defensive figure in the Serie A and in the Italian national team as well, having made 36 caps.

However, after Van Gaal’s sacking, Darmian played in only 4 games in all of 2018 at club level. He is well behind Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Diogo Dalot in the pecking order without a new contract offer from the Red Devils board.

The veteran fullback still has some football left in his tank and might just be ready to take his talents back to Italy. He could serve as an ideal backup for Joao Cancelo on the right flank.

Both clubs are reported to be in advanced talks as Juventus will have to shell out £2.6m to get Darmian on loan
