Kobbie Mainoo has allegedly given the go-ahead for a January departure from Manchester United after failing to win over Ruben Amorim. Last summer, United academy graduate Mainoo considered leaving Old Trafford, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe intervened and persuaded him he was needed.
Under Erik ten Hag, Mainoo had a breakthrough season in 2023–2024, which led to the teenager being included in Gareth Southgate’s England team for Euro 2024. In addition to going with the Three Lions in Germany, Mainoo played in most of England’s matches and, at the tender age of 19, began their final loss to Spain.
At the time, Mainoo was undoubtedly considered one of the world’s most promising young players; yet, the previous season was more disappointing for him. After Amorim took Ten Hag’s position in November of last year, regular game time stopped. According to the former Sporting manager, Mainoo was vying for the same slot in the team as his captain, Bruno Fernandes.
Napoli growing positive about signing Man Utd’s Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo, a midfielder for Manchester United, is apparently keen to join Napoli during the January transfer window, according to Il Mattino via Napoli Magazine, which gives Napoli great hope. The 20-year-old’s presence is seen by the Italian team as essential to resolving their present roster situation.
Mainoo is open to a move, particularly a loan arrangement, and has previously agreed to the concept of leaving the Premier League. The success of his former teammate Scott McTominay while wearing a Napoli shirt and the expectation that he would take on a significant part in the squad right away are alleged to be the driving forces for his wish to leave.
The current emphasis of negotiations between Manchester United and Napoli is settling on the transfer’s formula. The deadline is crucial because Napoli wants the transaction to be completed and the player to come as soon as the transfer market opens. Soungoutou Magassa of West Ham, who is valued at €17 million for a permanent move, is also included in the article as a backup plan, although Mainoo’s acquisition is still the main priority.
