The offer of a new contract at Manchester United is something Kobbie Mainoo is considering turning down in favor of moving elsewhere. Although the England international’s contract is just for two years, the club would be willing to trade him for around £70 million in order to improve their financial situation.
Having joined United at the age of six, the Stockport-born academy graduate, who turns 20 in April, made his debut in 2023 at the age of 17. Mainoo has played 60 times for the first team, has 10 England caps, and has been in lengthy talks for a new contract, but no deal has been reached. Although he has been mentioned as a possible target for Chelsea, he is not currently considering moving to another Premier League team.
According to his representation, Mainoo’s weekly salary of around £20,000 should be increased to better reflect his contribution to the squad. According to United, Mainoo may still consent to better terms. Since United needs to raise money in order to make signings, the proceeds from the sale of Mainoo would be a nice boost if he decides not to extend his contract.
Man Utd starlet will ‘reject contract offer
As stated in a Guardian Sport story, Mainoo “is minded to reject the offer of a new contract at Manchester United and seek a move abroad.” This comes as a bit of a shock to him as an academy graduate who joined the club at age six, but you can’t really blame him.
Mainoo has been negotiating a pay increase and extension for some time, and he only has two years left on his present contract. Talks are obviously not going well, and the England international is giving leaving Old Trafford considerable thought. The player is valued at “around £70 million,” according to the source, and Manchester United “would be open to selling” him.
Though Mainoo “moving to another Premier League club is not currently part of his thinking,” Chelsea’s prior interest is mentioned. With the present salary of £20,000 per week, United is still hopeful that the young midfielder “could still agree to improved terms” on a new deal. There is no denying that Mainoo is underpaid, especially in light of the outrageous salaries some of his colleagues receive.
