Manchester United finally ignited their Premier League campaign with a resounding 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, but one key figure in the dressing room refused to join the celebrations.

Luke Shaw delivered a brutally honest assessment of his own performance despite the emphatic scoreline, confessing his frustration at conceding the opening goal.
The left-back’s mistake allowed Leif Davis to volley home Abdul Fatawu’s cross in the 29th minute, giving the visitors an unexpected lead.
“I am a bit disappointed and angry with myself for the first goal,” Shaw told Sky Sports after the final whistle.
“Extremely happy with the team in the second half, it was really good.”
The England international’s error came just days after scrutiny following United’s opening weekend defeat to Hull City.
Shaw acknowledged the weight of expectation at the club and the need to respond positively after last week’s demoralising 2-0 loss.
“After last week, we were extremely disappointed and knew we had to react today,” he explained.
“Of course not the first goal but the way we bounced back after that. We kept the tempo high and kept going for more – that is the thing we can improve this season.”
Bruno Fernandes’ clinical hat-trick, alongside Bryan Mbeumo’s strike and Jacob Greaves’ own goal, ensured Michael Carrick secured his first permanent victory as head coach.
The Portuguese playmaker proved the difference-maker, with Shaw acknowledging his teammate’s influence.
“It always helps when you have someone like Bruno in your team, he can score and create.”
Carrick brushed aside speculation about recruiting a new left-back before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, instead praising his squad‘s character.
“The spirit is good and they want to fight for each other,” he told BBC Sport.
While the result lifted the mood at Old Trafford, Shaw’s candid admission reflects a squad determined to maintain high standards throughout the campaign.
