Sandro Tonali is at the top of Manchester United’s wishlist in anticipation of the midfield reconstruction at Old Trafford in the summer. After his agency disclosed last week that his client is thinking about his future, the 25-year-old Italian midfielder is anticipated to be at the center of yet another transfer drama at Newcastle United.
On the day of the transfer deadline, Tonali was also connected to Arsenal, and Manchester City has been keeping an eye on him. He is reportedly a top midfield player being considered by United, along with Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson.
A gap in United’s midfield will result from Casemiro’s announced departure in the summer, when his contract expires. After three seasons in the Premier League, Tonali is now very much on their radar as they consider long-term possibilities.
Newcastle would profit greatly from the £55 million they paid AC Milan in 2023. The player is currently in his third season in England, and he was banned for violating Italian betting laws during that time. A new deal that would take him to 2029 with an additional year’s option was signed by him while he was banned.
Newcastle star Sandro Tonali high on Man Utd’s summer transfer shortlist
The Red Devils are looking to finish the season with Champions League football after winning four straight league games under Michael Carrick. As veteran Casemiro nears the conclusion of his contract, they will, however, be thin on midfielders.
According to the 33-year-old Brazilian, he will depart Old Trafford this summer on a free transfer. And Tonali is now regarded as a strong candidate to take Casemiro’s spot in the center of United’s squad.
The 2022 Serie A champion’s Newcastle contract, which pays £150,000 per week, has more than three years still on it, with a fourth year option. The Toon is committed to keeping Tonali, and the player isn’t aggressively seeking a way out.
However, when Newcastle was crushed by Man City 5-1 in the Carabao Cup, he was overheard complaining to a staff member. Additionally, Tonali’s representative disclosed last week that the midfielder’s future on Tyneside will be discussed in a meeting this summer.
