Lucien Agoume, a midfielder for Sevilla, is reportedly being pursued by Manchester United this summer. The 24-year-old has apparently been identified by the Old Trafford team as an additional possibility in their ongoing quest for midfield reinforcements, as they appear poised to restructure their possibilities in the position.
It is said that Christopher Vivell, United’s head of recruiting, has a special fondness for Agoume and evaluates the Frenchman based on his “destroyer-type” midfielder profile. Agoume signed a deal with Sevilla until the conclusion of the 2027–2028 season after joining from Inter Milan in the summer of 2024. Journalist Shaun Connolly claims that Manchester United sees Agoume as an inexpensive substitute for Premier League players Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson.
Given that Sevilla is open to selling Agoume for about €30 million (£26 million), it is anticipated that his price will be comparable to that of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder João Gomes. For the last two seasons, Agoume has been a crucial midfield player for Sevilla, making 74 appearances in all competitions and contributing eight goals.
Lucien Agoume is a part of Man United’s wishlist
Manchester United has some ambitious summer plans. With Casemiro projected to depart the team and Manuel Ugarte likely to be let go, they are anticipated to recruit at least two elite midfielders this summer.
Although there is some doubt about Bruno Fernandes’ and Kobbie Mainoo’s futures, it is anticipated that they will stay at Old Trafford since they are enjoying their lives under Michael Carrick, the temporary manager. The Red Devils are thinking of making a bid for Agoume in order to add a fresh defensive midfield player who can play alongside Mainoo.
According to Theatre of Red, they did approach the La Liga powerhouse last summer, and several members of the team still think highly of them. Their interest in the 24-year-old, who has been performing admirably for the Spanish club, is being driven by their boss, Christopher Vivell.
He is outperforming some of their top targets and is described as a midfield “destroyer” in their scouting reports. Last summer, he was only worth £20 million (€23 million, or $27 million). He is still a good deal as compared to other options, even if the price has undoubtedly increased.
