Former United assistant manager Kieran McKenna gets first manager role at Ipswich Town

The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United is considering a summer transfer to sign Ipswich striker Liam Delap after a £40 million release clause in his contract surfaced.

The Red Devils are in dire need of improving their forward options for Ruben Amorim this summer because Alejandro Garnacho’s inconsistent play is contributing to problems, and Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are both having trouble establishing themselves at number nine.

After scoring 10 goals in his first season in the top division, the 22-year-old England youth international has drawn interest from a number of elite Premier League teams this season. However, despite his goals, Ipswich appears destined to return to the Championship right away, which might cost them their best forward.

According to The Daily Mail, Man Utd is prepared to increase their interest in bringing the former Man City academy star to Old Trafford because he has a £40 million release clause in his contract that would be activated should Ipswich be demoted.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, and his former team, Man City, are also keeping an eye on Delap. United technical director Jason Wilcox is familiar with the striker from his days at City’s youth, and the defending Premier League champions are rumored to have a buy-back clause for him.

Man Utd is anticipated to make acquiring a new forward a top priority this summer. Both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have had difficulty living up to expectations this season. At the end of the season, Marcus Rashford may sign a permanent loan from Aston Villa for £40 million.

With Jadon Sancho now on loan at Chelsea through June, the Red Devils may also find themselves in a difficult scenario. Although they are required to purchase the winger, the Blues might back out of the agreement for a cost of £5 million.

United, who are reportedly the top contenders for Delap, should be able to guarantee the striker consistent playing time and an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities to England manager Thomas Tuchel prior to the 2026 World Cup.
