Manchester United are preparing a blockbuster move to sign Borussia Dortmund speedster Karim Adeyemi, if the latest report is to be believed. In order to improve their imbalanced team at Old Trafford, the Red Devils seek to bolster their sides this summer, particularly at left wing and left back.

The club’s focus on rebuilding the midfield may compel them to look at a more affordable option, even though big-money targets like Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) and Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa) are the top alternatives out wide.

Adeyemi, a 24-year-old Germany international and one of the quickest players in Bundesliga history, has quickly become an INEOS priority. The Munich native is reportedly a long-time supporter of United, and it is quite likely that he will leave Signal Iduna Park following conflicts with the Dortmund coaching staff.

Adeyemi is a nightmare for opposing full-backs to monitor because of his powerful combination of devastating speed and sharp dashes. He can play comfortably on the flanks or into the middle.

Man United’s inside track to sign Borussia Dortmund star

The assumption that Adeyemi’s time with Die Schwarzgelben is ended even if an agreement is reached is further strengthened by reports that a release clause worth “around €80 million” is a major source of contention in talks for a new contract.

The Portuguese superagent Jorge Mendes, with whom United has negotiated several deals in recent years, is the winger’s agent. The most prominent instance was in the summer of 2024 when he assisted in arranging for Manuel Ugarte and Leny Yoro to sign during the same window.

Mendes is a harbinger of major transfer deals, and his presence gives INEOS access to Adeyemi through a source with whom they have a great working connection.

In addition, Dortmund’s position is weakened as the German approaches the last year of his contract. Fussball Daten concludes that the team is “likely to open negotiations in the range of 65-70 million euros”.

It seems logical that a “cheaper” alternative, like Adeyemi, in the area of £55–60 million, has emerged as the front-runner given that United has been quoted a price as high as €100 million for Diomande and Everton would seek an equally outrageous cost for Ndiaye.
