As information of a possible deal emerges from Italy, Manchester United may possibly be getting close to signing Ederson from Atalanta.
After defeating Liverpool earlier this month to earn Champions League qualifying, Man United is now working to make sure the team has the calibre and depth to handle the extra games on their calendar for the next season.
Despite Kobbie Mainoo’s recent comeback, Red Devils officials have already determined that center midfield is the crucial area they need to strengthen ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Casemiro’s contract ends at the end of the season, and Manuel Ugarte, who has been a letdown since signing from Paris Saint-Germain, is also poised to depart, leaving United with some significant vacancies in the center of the park.
Mason Mount played out of position alongside Mainoo in a deeper midfield role on Saturday against Sunderland due to the Brazilian’s absence, but it was a forced choice that demonstrated the club’s lack of depth in that position.
Ederson Agrees Five-Year Deal to Join Man United
Journalist Nic Schira of Tuttosport claims that Atalanta midfielder Ederson has reached a personal agreement to sign a five-year contract with United this summer, worth €5 million annually for the Brazilian. The 26-year-old, who has one year left on his Bergamo deal, is available this summer for almost £40 million.
Ederson has already “said yes” to a transfer to Old Trafford, according to Mateo Moretto’s story from the weekend. However, Fabrizio Romano has provided his own update, stating that although United is in “active” negotiations with the player’s management, an agreement has not yet been reached. Schira claims that Man United is prepared to give €45 million in an attempt to reach an agreement with Atalanta to increase their midfield options.
The Brazilian and La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid had already reached an agreement, but they objected to the Serie A team’s price of a player who will be free in less than a year. Given that they are prepared to do what Atletico is not, United seems to be in a strong position to complete a deal if they decide to make an offer for Ederson in the upcoming weeks.
