Manchester United is nearing a deal for over £60 million for Bryan Mbeumo, which would make the attacker from Brentford Ruben Amorim’s second big summer acquisition following Matheus Cunha.
It is believed that an initial sum has been agreed upon, and the clubs are negotiating add-ons that might bring the whole sale close to Brentford’s £65 million estimate. If the deal goes through, Brentford anticipates that United would have spent roughly £125 million after paying Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause to get him from Wolves.
Brentford places Mbeumo, 25, in the same category with Cunha, who is one year older. According to reports, the Brazilian makes a base salary of £150,000 per week; therefore, Mbeumo’s pay would at least be comparable. The Cameroonian scored 20 goals in the league last season, whereas Cunha only scored 15.
Christopher Nkunku of Chelsea is a target for the head coach, while Amorim is still interested in signing a No. 9. In the summer of 2023, Nkunku paid £52 million to join Chelsea, and in 58 games, he has scored 17 goals. The France international played the whole Chelsea 3-0 victory over Espérance in their last Club World Cup group match as a No. 10.
Bryan Mbeumo reacts to Man Utd transfer
There is hope that a deal can be reached because Mbeumo wants to finish his transfer to United as quickly as possible, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Cameroon international reportedly told Brentford that although he likes the team, joining United is his ideal transfer. After their poorest season in Premier League history, there was doubt regarding the caliber of players the Red Devils could bring in this summer.
Ruben Amorim lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, leading to a 15th-place finish and a trophyless season. However, Mbeumo’s imminent arrival has given significant encouragement for the 2025–26 season, even though there isn’t any European football available.
The Brentford No. 19 played in all 38 Premier League games, tallying eight assists and 20 goals. Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, and Mohamed Salah were the only players to surpass his goal total, which was nearly half of United’s 44 club goals.
