Now that Gianluigi Donnarumma’s opinions on the transfer are becoming clear and the Red Devils have overcome the one huge obstacle preventing them from making another big summer acquisition, Manchester United is becoming increasingly confident that a deal can be reached for the PSG goalkeeper.

Even though the Red Devils placed 15th in the Premier League the previous season, their appeal is still extremely strong, and the team, under the direction of director of football Jason Wilcox, is in the midst of a crucial summer window.

The newest player to sign a contract, Benjamin Sesko, was confirmed on Saturday, pushing Manchester United’s summer expenditure beyond the £200 million (€230 million, $270 million) mark.

The club is thrilled that Donnarumma has less than a year left on his PSG contract and that the European champions are not in the mood to let the Italy keeper leave as a free agent. Dean Jones announced on August 3 that inquiries had been made to bring the player to Old Trafford this summer.

Donnarumma wants Man Utd

Donnarumma’s current pay demands are viewed as a significant barrier to a possible transfer, so United may need to do some convincing to try to convince him to come to Old Trafford, even if negotiating a cost with PSG should be a fairly simple affair.

Given the club’s continuous efforts to reduce their wage bill and minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s aspirations of “not buying superstars, but making them,” United will also try to persuade the 26-year-old to accept reduced terms to move to Old Trafford, as the 74-time Italy keeper is currently on a deal worth €18 million a year in Paris, or about £300,000 per week.

Donnarumma, who is renowned for his exceptional international performances and his pivotal part in PSG’s victories, is intent on finding a new challenge in the Premier League. While talks between the teams are anticipated to heat up in the next few days, Manchester United is considering this option.
