According to The I Paper, Manchester United is among the teams expressing interest in acquiring Giorgio Scalvini, a defender for Atalanta, but it will require an offer of more than £50 million to do so this summer.

With Matheus Cunha being the only confirmed senior acquisition at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have been very quiet during the summer transfer season thus far. After United failed to win a trophy and ended in the bottom half of the Premier League in the 2024–2025 season, reinforcements will be required before the market ends.

As long as INEOS supports him with new players, this is Ruben Amorim’s first summer transfer window as the club’s manager. It’s time for the Portuguese manager to take charge and prove himself. Although the Manchester club seems to be working on many transactions at once, the lack of progress thus far may be making the fans restless.

Man Utd enter race for award-winning Italy star

Giorgio Scalvini of Atalanta is reportedly open to a Premier League move, and Manchester United may compete with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur for his services.

Several reports have identified Scalvini as Newcastle’s main defensive target, but as more teams enter the race, it may become more challenging for Eddie Howe’s team to finalize his acquisition. According to the i Paper, after being enthralled by the young player’s dominating performances in Serie A, Manchester United and Tottenham have entered the running for his services.

Newcastle has put in the most preparation to get Scalvini to England thus far. He might be too costly to sign, though, as it would take an offer north of £50 million to get Atalanta to consider his sale, they worry.

Since Scalvini has spent most of his time at Atalanta playing in a back three, if the young player signs with United, it should be relatively easy for him to get incorporated into Amorim’s system.
