Richard Keys has claimed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has become worse for Manchester United than the Glazers, suggesting “it’s never been as bad as it is now.” The Red Devils are on course to register their worst ever Premier League campaign—surpassing the eighth-place finish they achieved last season. Ratcliffe arrived last year with huge expectations given the success he and Ineos had enjoyed in other sports.
They also came in to take over the football operations, which had previously been left to the Glazers and those they employed. Optimism had increased, but Ratcliffe has endured a horror spell, with a host of his decisions proving unpopular and unsuccessful.
On the field, performances have been appalling, with Erik ten Hag being backed and then fired, summer additions failing to live up to expectations, and the team regressing further after hiring Ruben Amorim. Off the field, staff have been laid off, and ticket prices have gone up.
Man United hit with Ruben Amorim quit bombshell
On his blog, Keys wrote: “Ratcliffe received a hero’s welcome when he showed up to attend his first game. I know why. United supporters desperately wanted to believe. They did believe at first, but hasn’t everything gone terribly wrong?
“It has never been this difficult. Under his leadership, United has been reduced to mere fragments. Sadly, I must admit—a laughing stock. United is a long way from reuniting with the greatest, but I sincerely hope they return to the top table in English football.
Amorim may only make one significant acquisition during the January transfer window because he has not yet received the assistance he requires on the club’s financial status. The club’s present roster doesn’t support his ideology, and Amorim has been forced to discuss the possibility of relegation.
